Why people look for a VidMate old version

  • Older phones. New builds need more storage and memory. An older build can run better on a phone with 1–2 GB of RAM.
  • A familiar layout. Some people prefer the look of the 4.x series.
  • A feature that changed. Occasionally an update moves or removes an option people liked.

The downside: old versions stop working with sites that have changed since, and they miss security fixes. If an old version can’t download from a site, the latest version usually can.

VidMate 2.5, 4.0, 4.6, “2010” and “2017” versions

You will see many searches for versions such as VidMate 2.5, 4.0 or 4.6, and even “VidMate 2000” or “2010”. VidMate first appeared in the mid-2010s, so there is no genuine version from 2000 or 2010 — files with those names are usually re-labelled or fake. Very early 2.x builds no longer work with today’s websites at all. If you want a lightweight build, choose the oldest version from the list above that still works for you; otherwise, install the latest.

How to install an older VidMate

  1. Uninstall the VidMate version you have now — Android won’t install an older version over a newer one. Your downloaded files stay on the phone.
  2. Download the version you want and open the APK.
  3. Allow installs from your browser if asked, then tap Install.
  4. Inside VidMate, ignore update prompts if you want to stay on that version.

Only install old versions from sources you trust. Scan unknown APKs with Google Play Protect before opening them.

Frequently asked questions

Which VidMate old version is best?

For most phones, the latest version. If it is too heavy for your phone, try the newest 5.x build that installs and runs smoothly.

Will I lose my downloads if I switch versions?

No. Downloaded videos are stored on your phone, not inside the app. They stay when you uninstall.

Is VidMate 4.6 still available?

We don’t host every historic build. Older 4.x releases don’t work with most sites today, so we recommend the versions listed above.
